Caring for your wood countertop

Our standard satin permanent finish is maintenance free. We recommend cleaning it with a non abrasive cleaner like Simple Green all purpose cleaner. To remove small scratches we recommend using Howard brand Feed-N-Wax, a easy to use bees wax. You just spread it on the countertop, wait 10-15 minutes and then buff off with a clean cloth. A tung-oil finish needs to have Waterlox's Original Sealer & Finish re-applied once or twice a year or to taste. (download PDF)

Our mineral oil finish needs to have a coat of Howard brand Butcher Block Conditioner applied once every 1-3 months depending on use. Use a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water for daily cleaning. The vinegar will naturally kill any bacteria that may be present. (download PDF)

Repairing a check

To repair a check we recommend using Tight Bond II wood glue which is available at all home improvement stores. Apply some to the check and rub it in with your finger. The deeper you can get it the better. When done use a damp rag or sponge to remove any extra glue from the surface of the top. Allow it to dry for 3-4 hours before wetting the area. For very small checks you can use a furniture wax stick to fill it making it virtually invisible. Wax sticks area also available at most home improvement stores.
